"The purpose of the Goddard Archery Club (GAC) is to promote archery as a recreational activity, to provide facilities for the sport of archery, and to promote archery fellowship."

The GAC will use this page to disseminate info relevant to club members and the Goddard community as appropriate. This will replace the previous e-mail mailings regarding club news, so please check back here periodically.

Safety Update.

Recently, some GAC members have reported encountering employees from nearby buildings using the range for lunch-time walks. If you encounter anyone on the range you do not recognize as a GAC member, or anyone using the range for other than archery or similar club-related purpose, please politely ask to see their GAC ID card. If they do not have one, please POLITELY remind them that this is an ACTIVLY USED ARCHERY RANGE and can be a VERY dangerous place to be. Also, as the sign states, persons not possessing valid GAC ID cards are not permitted on range.

Summer Clean-up news coming soon.

The State of Maryland has enacted changes to certain bow hunting regulations that can be expected to bring members out to practice earlier in the summer. Accordingly, the usual fall clean-up and GAC meeting at the range will become a summer clean-up and meeting and will be scheduled very soon – stay tuned for the announcement.

Thanks to all who showed up and pitched in for the clean-up last fall. The turnout was great! There was a lot of work to do and folks worked hard and it got done. Every target was refurbished to like-new condition. Well done!

Range conditions.

The picnic table that we all like to use for setting up our gear and preparing for practice continues to be damaged beyond repair by the tree that fell on it last year. GAC officers have contacted the appropriate GEWA personnel requesting replacement but have received no response as yet.

Security Update

- As we all are aware, security is a priority at GSFC. GAC members' vehicles may be searched upon entering the campus. GAC officers have contacted GSFC Security and determined the following:

If you have your bow in your vehicle and are pulled over for a search, GSFC Security requires that you:
1. Inform the guards that you have a bow before they begin the search.
2. Produce a valid GAC ID card.

Crossbows - There are at least two GAC members with disabilities who have a valid crossbow permits and have received permission from GAC officers to use a crossbow on the range. If pulled over for a search, crossbow users are required to:
1. Inform the guards that you have a crossbow before they begin the search.
2. Produce a valid GAC "Crossbow Approved" ID card.
3. Produce a valid state-issued crossbow permit.
