Minutes of Goddard Soccer League Executive Committee Meeting

August 17, 2000, 12 - 1pm, Bldg. 11, C2F

(1) John Garrett thanked the service of the previous officers - especially our previous President, Carl.

(2) Budget as approved:

Expenses:

Referees $4000

Field $1200

Insurance $ 200

Annual Mtg. $ 150

Game Balls $ 120

Admin. $ 50

Total $5720

- Team dues were voted to be $715/team - same as last season.

- There was a general discussion on purchasing games balls for each team. Another suggestion was to leave a couple game balls in the shed with a pump and needle. JT will look into getting a good ball deal for the League.

- 1/2 team dues to be paid by noon, Friday, Sept. 8.

- Balance of all dues to be paid by noon, Friday, Sept. 22

- The "No pay, No play" rule is in effect

- Bring team dues to John Gagosian, Bldg. 11, E137, 6-4512,

(This is easy since Bldg. 11 is next to the soccer field.)

(3) Logistics

- Schedule is available and on web page.

- Referees have been contacted and are being assigned.

- Referees contract will be signed by John and sent in. Schedule will be sent in by John to Refs.

- Rosters should be updated and sent to Carl.

- Names of non-badged players should be sent to Carl so names can be put at main gate.

- Waivers are needed for new players before they play. Don't need waivers from players who signed one last season. Membership cards will be given when waivers turned in and player declared eligible.

- GEWA ads submitted. New players assigned by John or Yaz.

-No new rule changes taking effect this season to our knowledge.

(4) Field (reported by Bob Walker for Nick Jedrich)

- Field should be cut a couple more times.

- Blue team is responsible for field for 1st week.

- Nick plus another volunteer will line the field on Sunday evening.

- Work party will be called by Nick later in the Fall.

- General discussion of improving field drainage:

We will first consider digging a ditch around the field. Steve Brown will head up a committee to investigate this plan. We need more volunteers. Carl will talk to Barry Coyle. Yaz may also be interested. We will need some equipment for the trench and some expertise in monitoring the gradient of the ditch.

(5) Other Business

JT suggested we reconsider some red card penalties, especially for a goalie who receives a red card for touching the ball outside the box - a two game suspension is harsh for a foul that is usually unintentional. He said that we should use an appeal process where a report is filed by both captains of the game where the penalty is assessed and then all the captains vote to accept or repeal the red card. Carl will check the By-laws to see if there is an appeal process.

(6) Next soccer meeting scheduled for 5th week, Thurs., Sept. 21.
