Minutes of Executive Committee Meeting, 9/21/00
Present: John Garrett, Yaz Adam, Carl Stahle, Earl Radway, Stan Underwood, Fred Berendse, Tracy Meyer, Steve Dobrosielski, Martin Rivas, Dave Warren, Carver Audain
(1) Dues were paid, signed rosters and waivers collected.
(2) Field
- Work Party at end of season.
- Tractor should be serviced at beginning of each season, including sharpening the blades. Steve Brown has already done some work on the tractor. What else needs to be done?
- Stan Underwood suggested that we put in a facilities request to GEWA to get our field mowed. The teams would still be responsible for cutting and painting the lines and other weekly maintenance on the field. John Garrett will look into this with GEWA.
- We talked about our field drainage problem again and how we can dig the ditch around the side of the field. Stan will contact Barry Coyle which he did and then meet with him. Carl has some information from Barry.
(3) Makeup games - Check with refs
- 10/20 Green/Grey
- 10/23 Red/Orange
- 10/24 Purple/Blue
- 10/27 White/Purple
(4) List of nonbadged players at Security
- Brief discussion of the list of nonbadged players at Security. Captains should keep the list updated by informing the Secretary (Carl). This is especially important for the guest players.
(5) Recruiting
- John Garrett will make sure that the ad for new players is put in. The captains will work together on a flyer to post around Goddard. I believe I heard that Yaz would help lead this effort. Players will be distributed to the teams in the greatest need. Right now, Blue needs players.
(6) Red Card Appeals
- We checked our By-laws and found that there is a process of appealing a red card to the Executive Committee. The appeal is for the penalty, not for removing the red card. The Executive Committee voted on a process to appeal the penalty for the red card. The process is listed below from John Garrett is a later email:
Procedure to reduce penalty for receiving a red card.
1. As soon as possible following the game, the captain of the team whose player received the red card will inform the captain of the other team and the president of the league that a request to reduce the penalty is being instituted. Normally the other captain would be informed by end of the game and the president by the Start of Business the next day.
2. The captains of both teams shall prepare a statement describing what happened, if they believe any penalty should be waived or reduced, and any other pertinent information. By End of Business the next normal working day these statements shall be sent via email to all GSL executive committee members. If either of the captains obtains a written statement from the referee(s), this shall also be sent by the captain who obtained it.
3. Captains of each of the GSL teams and the GSL President shall email a vote on the issue to the GSL President by the End of Business on the second normal work day following the game.
4. The GSL President shall announce the results of the vote. The decision is final.
The review procedure has been set up to not only address the possibility that a red card was given incorrectly, but also to address the possibility that the normal penalties for receiving a red card may be out of balance with what actually occurred. A red card normally results in a 2 game suspension and one penalty point being assigned. If the red card was given to a player for fighting, it results in a 10 game suspension.
If two or more penalty points are accumulated by a player within a single season, the player is suspended for 10 games.
Red Card Review Vote
____ Maintain Penalties
___ Waive or Reduce Penalties
If the majority vote is in favor of Reducing the Penalties, we should:
____ Waive All Penalties
____ Reduce Penalties
If the majority vote is in favor of Reducing the Penalties, we should:
Assign __ Point(s) and Suspend player for ___ Game(s)

(7) Fair Play Award
- Fred Berendse suggested that we initiate a Fair Play Award to the team which accumulates the fewest red and yellow cards. We thought this was a good idea. Fred will think about how to implement this idea. One idea is to have the the two teams which have the fewest cards play the opening game of the season as a model for good sportsmanship.
