Frequently Asked Questions

Are there requirements to join?

Yes – the league asks that you have a basic understanding of volleyball (not backyard volleyball) and that you are not a danger to others on the court. This means if you run all over the court and do not understand positions, this is the not league for you. This is a significant safety risk and is not allowed Otherwise, if you are affiliated with NASA, you are eligible to play in the league. Affiliated means civil servant, contractor, or affiliate. Family members of qualified players are also eligible to play in the league.

How many teams are there?

The league has 7-8 full teams

What time are the games?

Games are on Friday evenings and will be at 6:20 PM or 7:40 PM, with warmup 10 minutes prior

When is the GMVL season?

The season runs from early October to the end of April, with the tournament typically being the first or second weekend in May. This averages out to around 21-23 game nights per season. There is a GMVL team open house typically on the last Friday in September.

How much does it cost?

Cost varies by team and can range from $50-$80 per person, for the entire season

Where does the GMVL play?

The league plays off-site at the Greenbelt Community Center, located in Old Greenbelt, less than 10 minutes away from GSFC

How do I know what team I am on?

If you are recruited by a specific team, you will play for that team, otherwise, you will be assigned to a team based on your skillset.

Is there a commitment?

Yes. We ask that you commit to playing at least part-time during your first season, which averages out to around 11 game nights. If you are unhappy, please reach out to let us know and we will do our best to help you
